Padilla Statement on the Passing of Richard Alatorre
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) issued the following statement on the passing of Richard Alatorre:
“I am deeply saddened over the passing of my friend and community leader, Richard Alatorre.
“Richard dedicated his life to public service when few Latinos held public office, giving a voice to those who had long-been ignored in halls of power. His work paved the way for others, including myself, to run for office. Richard was a relentless champion for underserved communities across California during his time in the State Assembly and on Los Angeles City Council. From strengthening California’s farm labor laws to his trailblazing work on reapportionment, Richard’s efforts helped build the political power of marginalized communities from the ground up.
“Angela and I send our love and prayers to his wife Angie, their three children Melinda, Derrick and Daryl, and the entire community of those who loved Richard.”
