Padilla Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) released the following statement after President Biden delivered his third State of the Union Address:
“Over the past three years, President Biden has shown Americans that when Democrats lead, our nation is stronger.
“Democrats have delivered record jobs numbers, higher wages, and low unemployment levels. We’ve put the American people over corporate greed and we’ve lowered health care costs for families. And we’ve made America more resilient in the face of the climate crisis by launching a historic clean energy transition that will drastically lower emissions and improve air quality.
“Now, with democracy under attack, America must deliver critical aid to our allies and stand strong against Russia and China. I also applaud the actions announced by the Biden Administration to expedite the entry of urgently needed aid into Gaza.
“We must also strengthen our southern border in a way that is orderly, humane, and in line with our legal obligations to permit people to seek asylum. Republicans have shown they’re not serious about reforming our outdated immigration system. But we must not leave behind the Dreamers, farmworkers, and other long-time residents of the United States who power our economy and make our country stronger.
“While extremist Republicans attack fundamental freedoms, obstruct progress, and undermine our democracy, Democrats will continue fighting to defend the American Dream for future generations. With the trust of the American people, we will continue to deliver.”
