Padilla Statement on President Biden’s State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) released the following statement after President Biden delivered his first State of the Union Address:
“Tonight, we saw the President’s steady leadership, depth of experience, and compassion on full display. California and the American people heard a message of hope, unity, and resilience as we continue our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and confront a conflict abroad. This moment is also an opportunity to reflect on the significant and tangible progress we’ve made in the last year. Schools have reopened. Vaccines are free and widely available. More than 6 million jobs have been added to the economy and the unemployment rate has been cut in half. And Congress passed historic investments to update our aging infrastructure and create even more quality jobs in the process.
“The work must continue to give everyone a fair shot at the American dream — to build a better America for all. We must lower costs for families, ensure that we have a fair immigration system, reduce the price of health care, combat the existential threat of climate change, and protect democracy at home and abroad. And I’m encouraged by the President’s commitment to meet our nation’s mental health needs. I will continue fighting on behalf of California and working with the Biden-Harris administration to rebuild our country stronger than before.”
