Padilla Statement on Louisiana District Court Ruling on Title 42
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship and Border Safety, released the following statement after a federal judge in Louisiana blocked the Biden administration from lifting Title 42:
“Keeping Title 42 in place is a violation of our asylum laws that will continue to put countless additional people in danger and create chaos at our border. The use of a misguided public health regulation for border enforcement is not a solution to our broken immigration system—it is unlawful, immoral, and inconsistent with our values as a nation.
“We must end Title 42 and work to build a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system that includes expanding lawful pathways to the U.S. and discouraging irregular migration.”
