Padilla Statement on Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger Retirement

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over the U.S. Capitol Police, issued the following statement after Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger announced he will retire May 2:

“I thank Chief J. Thomas Manger for his nearly 50 years of law enforcement service. Since joining the U.S. Capitol Police following the January 6 attack on the Capitol, Chief Manger worked hard to bring stability to the Department, make significant security improvements, and improve recruitment and retention. As the Capitol Police Board begins the search and selection process for the next chief, I urge them to choose a proven, effective leader who will focus on tackling the remaining challenges, supporting the workforce, and keeping the Capitol community safe for employees and visitors alike.”
