Padilla Statement on Biden’s Recognition of the Armenian Genocide

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) released the following statement after President Joe Biden formally recognized the horrors of the Armenian genocide on the 106th anniversary of the massacre:

Today, we commemorate the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide knowing that the United States Government formally recognizes the historical truth. The history is clear – facts of the genocide cannot be disputed.

“Today’s recognition by President Biden and the federal government allows for us to work towards true justice for the victims, while also ensuring we pass on critical lessons to future generations.

“I am proud the that the United States government is now publicly and formally on record in recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This moment is an important lesson for all to embrace. I commend President Biden on his conviction and his decision to affirm the historical facts of this genocide. Our message sends a strong signal to the rest of the world and helps us to ensure this will never happen again.”

Earlier this year, Padilla signed a letter urging President Biden to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide as genocide in his remembrance statement.
