Padilla, Senate Colleagues Reaffirm Support for Ukraine in Bipartisan Resolution
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) cosponsored a new, bipartisan resolution reaffirming the unwavering support of the United States for a secure and independent Ukraine amid increased Russian aggression. The resolution passed the Senate with unanimous support.
“With the ongoing threat of a Russian invasion in Ukraine, today the Senate sent a clear message to the Kremlin that the United States stands firmly behind the Ukrainian people and with our NATO allies and partners most threatened by Russian aggression,” said Senator Padilla. “We will not turn a blind eye to this unprovoked aggression as we continue to seek a diplomatic solution to this crisis.”
The Senators’ resolution is a renewed bipartisan message from the U.S. Senate in fierce support of the United States’ Ukrainian partners in response to Vladimir Putin’s escalating aggression. The resolution was passed today after reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin had moved 7,000 additional troops to the current forces on the Ukrainian border over the last two days after publicly claiming he had ordered a withdrawal of some troops.
The resolution was co-led by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, and U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Chair of the Senate Ukraine Caucus.
Text of the resolution is available here.
