Padilla Rejects Senate Republicans’ Billionaires-First Budget Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement after voting against Republicans’ reconciliation budget bill that puts billionaire interests over the interests of hardworking Californians:
“Once again, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are showing Americans where their priorities lie — with the billionaire class at the expense of the working class. A vote for this budget is a vote to cut programs like Medicaid, nutrition assistance, and public education for millions of Californians so that Republicans can fund their tax cuts for billionaires. It’s that simple.
“I will not turn my back on hardworking families in California and across the country. They deserve better than this disastrous plan that will raise prices and cut the services and programs they rely on.”
Senator Padilla spoke on the Senate floor against this budget resolution, and voted against advancing the budget bill in the Senate in February.
