Padilla Joins South San Francisco High School Students for Roundtable Discussion on Supreme Court Confirmation
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, hosted a roundtable discussion with students from South San Francisco High School on the historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court. During the roundtable, Padilla discussed the hearing process and the significance of Judge Jackson’s nomination to the Supreme Court. He took questions from students and addressed the impact that the Supreme Court has on Americans’ daily lives.
“Every time a new justice is nominated to the Supreme Court, it’s a significant moment in American history because Supreme Court Justices and other federal judges receive lifetime appointments, and many serve for decades,” said Senator Padilla. “I’m glad I could be here to share this moment and speak more about this process with the bright students of South San Francisco High School.”
As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Padilla has an integral role in Judge Jackson’s nomination process and will participate in her confirmation hearings next week. Padilla recently met with Judge Jackson ahead of these hearings and lauded her historic nomination to the Supreme Court.
Since his time as California’s Secretary of State, Padilla has worked to promote civic engagement with high school students and young people across the state.
