Padilla Applauds Confirmation of Judge Ana de Alba to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Senate confirmed Judge Ana de Alba to serve on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals:

“The daughter of immigrants from Mexico, Judge de Alba’s path to her confirmation to the Ninth Circuit today embodies the American Dream. I was proud to recommend and confirm Judge de Alba as the first Latina to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, where she has more than proven herself as the public servant Americans deserve on the Ninth Circuit. Judge de Alba is dedicated, fair, and universally respected by her colleagues. I look forward to working with the Biden Administration to continue confirming immensely qualified judges like her to the federal bench.”

Judge Ana de Alba has served as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of California since 2022. Previously, she served as a judge on the Superior Court of California in Fresno County from 2018 to 2022. Judge de Alba became a partner at her firm, Lang Richert & Patch after just five years, holding that position from 2013 to 2018. She was an associate at the firm from 2007 to 2013.

Judge de Alba received her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2007 and her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002. Padilla previously supported her confirmation as a judge for the Eastern District of California, and he introduced her at her Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing earlier this year.

Senator Padilla is committed to building a federal judiciary that better reflects and understands the America it serves. Within weeks of being sworn into the Senate, Padilla established a Judicial Evaluation Commission that is approximately 70 percent attorneys of color and a majority women to evaluate candidates for federal judicial vacancies in California. Padilla has worked closely with the Biden administration to recommend and support the nominations of highly-qualified, outstanding judges to the federal courts.
