Padilla Announces Spring 2023 Paid Internships for College Students and Recent Graduates

Various internships offered in Washington, D.C. and California state offices; Deadline: November 6, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced that applications are now open for Spring 2023 general/legislative and press internships in his Washington D.C. and California offices. The internship program provides undergraduate college students and recent college graduates a front and center opportunity to learn the workings of a Senate office and directly participate in serving the people of California.

“Internships are a key part of our D.C. and California offices in helping us serve Californians effectively,” said Senator Padilla. “Our paid internship program is a unique opportunity to learn valuable skills while also having a direct role in assisting communities across California. I look forward to welcoming our new class of interns and seeing where this internship will take them.”

General/legislative interns’ responsibilities will include conducting research and attending congressional hearings and briefings for legislative staff, logging voicemails, organizing constituent correspondence, and working with the operations team.

Press interns’ responsibilities include transcribing various news events and interviews, compiling daily news clips, conducting research for speechwriting, assisting with social media content, and additional tasks to assist the press team. One press intern will be a designated digital/press intern, for which graphic design/video production and other additional digital skills are a plus.

California state office interns’ responsibilities include organizing and sorting incoming mail, assisting staff with constituent casework, drafting correspondence, and helping plan event advance work.

To apply for the Spring 2023 program, applicants should visit https://www.padilla.senate.gov/services/internships/. Internship applications must be submitted through the application portal by 11:59 PM ET on November 6, 2022. Please note: At this time, the Office of U.S. Senator Alex Padilla is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 public health crisis and is committed to ensuring the health and safety of interns.
