Padilla Announces Over $30 Million In Affordable Housing Grants For Tribes In California

Grants awarded as part of the historic American Rescue Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) announced nearly $31 million for affordable housing grants is being awarded to 105 tribes in California. This funding is part of the American Rescue Plan that Senator Padilla voted to pass in the Senate and President Biden signed into law on March 11, 2021.

“Recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic must address inequities facing Native Americans,” Senator Padilla said. “I was proud to vote for the comprehensive American Rescue Plan because it reaches California’s most disadvantaged communities, including tribal communities who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. With nearly $31 million in grants to over 100 California tribes, this funding will provide much needed relief and help address the affordable housing crisis in Indian Country.”

IHBG is a formula grant that provides a range of affordable housing activities on Indian reservations and Indian areas. The IHBG Program provides grants to Tribes and tribally designated housing entities (TDHE) to carry out affordable housing activities in Tribal communities. The program will provide affordable housing assistance to Tribal members.
