ASSISTANCE FOR UKRAINE
Senator Padilla stands with the brave people of Ukraine against Russia’s unprovoked and unjustifiable invasion of their sovereign, democratic nation. He has also made clear he stands with the Ukrainian community across California. As our office continues to monitor developments, we will work directly with the State Department and other federal agencies to assist constituents with casework.
Senator Padilla is committed to coordinating with our allies to impose severe costs on Putin, and has called on the Administration to work with allies in the region to provide refugee and humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians fleeing Russian aggression. As chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, the Senator called on the Biden administration to protect Ukrainian nationals living in the United States. We encourage U.S. citizens to enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy to contact you in an emergency.
Uniting for Ukraine
President Biden announced Uniting for Ukraine, a new streamlined process to provide Ukrainian citizens who have fled Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression with opportunities to come to the United States.
Uniting for Ukraine provides a pathway for displaced Ukrainian citizens and their immediate family members who are outside the United States to come to the United States and stay temporarily for up to two years. Ukrainians participating in Uniting for Ukraine must have a supporter in the United States who agrees to provide them with financial support for the duration of their stay in the United States.
