Padilla Statement on White House Immigration Meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and member of the Senate Budget Committee, released the following statement after meeting with President Biden and Vice President Harris to discuss the next steps for providing a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants:

“I am grateful to have the unequivocal support of President Biden and Vice President Harris in our effort to finally provide immigrants with a well-earned pathway to citizenship through budget reconciliation. Working with the White House, allies in Congress and advocates across the country, we have powerful momentum to get this done.

“This is a critical moment for the future of immigration reform. The upcoming budget reconciliation process provides us with the best opportunity we’ve had in years to take action. We have a lot of work ahead, but as we work towards economic recovery for our nation, we must fight for permanent protections for the immigrants whose contributions are essential to our nation’s economy and security.”
